Chapter 7 Working with Configurations
Clone a Library Configuration
Lab ManagerallowsyoutocreatefullclonesofLibraryconfigurations.Afull‐cloneoperationcreatesanew
configurationthatincludessomeorallofthevirtualmachinesintheoriginalconfiguration.Aspartofthe
process,Lab Managerconsolidatesthevirtualharddisksofthevirtualmachinesintheclonedconfiguration.
When
youcreateaclone,Lab Managerassignsthesamenetworkparameterstotheclonedvirtualmachines.
Ifyoumovetheoriginalandclonedconfigurationstoaworkspaceanddeploythematthesametime,
duplicateIPaddresserrorsoccurunlessyoudeployoneoftheconfigurationsinfencedmode.
Lab Managercreatescloned
configurationsintheorganizationcurrentlyselectedintheOrganization
drop‐downmenu.Theuserperformingthecloneoperationbecomestheowneroftheclonedconfiguration.
To clone a Library configuration
1OntheLibrarypage,movethepointerovertheconfigurationnameandselectClonetoLibraryfromthe
menu.
2Typeaname.
3 (Optional)Typeadescription.
4Specify
atimetodeletetheconfigurationormarktheconfigurationfordeletion.
5 (Optional)Typechangesummarytextthatwillappearontheconfiguration’sHistorytab.
6Specifythevirtualmachinestocloneandselectadatastore.
7ClickOK.
Share a Configuration
Ifyouaretheownerofaconfiguration,orifyouruserroleincludestheAdministratorViewandControlright,
youcanshareaworkspaceorlibraryconfigurationwithotherusers.Sharingaworkspaceconfigurationgrants
accesstootherusers.Sharingalibraryconfigurationallowsotheruserstoclonetheirown
copyofthe
configurationtoaworkspace.
Dependingonyourrights,youcanshareaconfigurationwithinorbetweenworkspaces,withinorbetween
organizations,oracrosstheentireLab Managerinstallation.
Whenyoushareaconfiguration,youcanspecifyaccessrightsfortheuserswithwhomyouaresharingthe
configuration.Access
rightscombinewiththerightsprovidedbyauser’sroletodeterminehowthatusercan
interactwiththesharedconfiguration.Accessrightscannotprovideuserswithrightsthattheydonotalready
havebasedontheirrole.
To share a configuration
1MovethepointeroveraworkspaceorlibraryconfigurationnameandselectSharing
.
TheSharingConfigurationdialogboxdisplaystheusersandorganizationsthatcurrentlyhaveaccessto
theconfigurationandtheirlevelofaccesscontrol.
2ClickAddUsers.
3 Selecttheorganizationcontainingtheuserswithwhomyouwanttosharetheconfigurationorselect
Globaltoviewusersfromallorganizations.
4 Selectwith
whomyouwanttosharetheconfiguration.
EveryoneinOrganizationsharestheconfigurationwithallusersintheselectedorganization.
EveryoneinWorkspacesharestheconfigurationwithallusersintheselectedworkspace.
SelectedUserssharestheconfigurationwithspecificusersintheselectedorganization.
Selectthecheckboxnexttoeachuserwithwhomyouwanttosharetheconfiguration.
