Import a Configuration to a Workspace
YoucanimportanexistingconfigurationandallitsvirtualmachinesfromanSMBshare.Lab Manager
supportsimportingconfigurationsthatwereexportedfromvCenterLabManagerorvCenterStageManager.
ImportoperationsrequireaccesstoadatastoreconnectedtoanESXhostwithanopenSMBport.Although
Lab Manageropensthe
portduringinstallation,makesurethattheportwasnotclosedaftertheinstall.
To checktheportstatus,runesxcfg-firewall -q smbClientoneachhost.Ifyouonlyhaveaccessto
datastoresconnectedtoESXihosts,youcannotimportconfigurations.
Whenyouimportaconfigurationthatyoupreviouslyexported,Lab Managersetsthefencing
policyforthe
importedconfigurationtoFencedOnly.See“ModifyConfigurationProperties”onpage 68forinformation
abouthowtomodifythefencingpolicy.
WhenyouimportaconfigurationthatwasexportedfromStageManageroraversionofLab Managerpriorto
version3.0.x,Lab Managercreatesavirtualnetwork(DefaultNetwork)andassigns
alltheconfigurationNICs
tothisnetwork.YoucanaddadifferentnetworktotheconfigurationandreassigntheNICstothatnetwork.

To import a configuration
1IntheOrganizationdropdownmenu,selecttheorganizationtowhich
youwanttoimportthe
configuration.
2ClickWorkspacesandclickthenameoftheworkspacetowhichyouwanttoimporttheconfiguration.
Ifyouonlyhaveaccesstooneworkspace,clickWorkspace.
3ClickImportConfiguration.
4TypetheUNCpathofthedirectory(relativetotheLab Managerserversystem)wherethe
configuration
fileisstored.
UseEnglishcharactersfortheUNCpath.Asamplepathis
\\10.6.1.246\VMwareLM\ExportedConfigs.
5Typetheusernameandpasswordfortheimportdirectory,ifnecessary.
6ClickNext.
7Provideconfigurationdetails.
8ClickImport.
Copy a Workspace Configuration
Youcancopyaworkspaceconfigurationbycloningsomeorallofitsvirtualmachinestoanewconfiguration.
Ifyouhaveaccesstomorethanoneworkspace,youcancloneconfigurationsfromoneworkspacetoanother.
Youcannotcloneconfigurationsfromoneorganizationtoanother.
Whenyoucreateaclone,
Lab Managerassignsthesamenetworkparameterstotheclonedvirtualmachines.
Ifyoudeploytheoriginalandclonedconfigurationsatthesametime,duplicateIPaddresserrorsoccurunless
youdeployoneoftheconfigurationsinfencedmode.
Full Clones and Linked Clones
Whenyoucloneconfigurations,youcanconsolidatethesourceconfiguration’svirtualmachinesduringthe
cloningprocesstocreatefullclonesofthevirtualmachines.Typically,youdonotneedtocreatefullclones
unlessyouplantodismantlethestorageandmovetheconfigurationtoadifferentserver,orifyou
needto
maximizetheperformanceofspecificvirtualmachines(forexample,forcertainproductionlevelvirtual
machines).
Afullcloneoperationcopiesallofavirtualmachine’sdeltadisksanditsbasediskandconsolidatestheminto
anewbasedisk.Theoriginalbasediskremainsunchanged.Afullcloneoperation
takeslongerthana
linkedcloneoperation.Youcannotmakeafullcloneofadeployedconfiguration.
