To create a virtual machine template

TheversiondeterminesonwhichESX/ESXihostthatthevirtualmachineruns.Thedefaultisvirtual
machineversion7,whichrunsonESX/ESXi4.0orlater.
7 Selectaguestoperatingsystem(OS).
Ifyouselecta64‐bitguestOS,thedatastoremustbeconnectedtoanESX/ESXihostthatprovidesthe
required64‐bitprocessorforthatguestOS.Youcancreateatemplatewithoutahost,butyoucannot
deploythevirtualmachinetemplateuntil
youattachahostwiththecorrectprocessor.Ifyouhavesome
(butnotall)64‐bithosts,LabManagerlimitsthenumberofhostsonwhichthevirtualmachinetemplate
canbedeployed.ForinformationonenablinganESX/ESXihosttoprovide64‐bitsupport,seethe
VMwareInfrastructuredocumentation.
8 SelectthenumberofvirtualCPUs.
Thedatastoreforthisvirtualmachinetemplatemustbeconnectedtoahostthatprovidestherequired
SMPtechnologyfortheguestOS.IfyouchooseaCPUnumbernotcurrentlycompatiblewiththeCPUof
thehost,youcannotdeploythevirtualmachinetemplate
untilyouattachahostwiththeappropriateSMP
support.IfyouhavesomebutnotallhoststhatprovidetherequiredSMPtechnology,LabManagerlimits
thenumberofhostsonwhichthevirtualmachinetemplatecanbedeployed.

Importing Virtual Machine Templates
ImportingavirtualmachinetemplateinvolvescopyinganexternalvirtualmachineintotheLab Manager
templatelibrary.Youcanimportavirtualmachinethatisnewto,orwaspreviouslyexportedby,Lab Manager.
Lab ManagerchangestheMACaddressofallimportedvirtualmachines.
Lab Managersupportsthesevirtualmachinestypesforimportoperations:
VMwareWorkstation
VMwareServer
VMwareESX/ESXi
BEALiquidVM
OnlyLiquidVMsthatusestaticIPmodeandDHCPmodearesupported.Ifimportingtakeslongerthan
twohours,Lab Managertimesout.TomodifythetimeoutforvCenterandSMBimports,see
