Consolidate a Virtual Machine Template
Eachtimeyoucreatealinkedcloneofavirtualmachinetemplate,Lab Managerfreezesthevirtualharddisk
associatedwiththeoriginaltemplateandcreatesdeltadiskstostorefuturechangestothecloneanditssource.
Overtime,theincreasingnumberofstoreddeltadiskscanaffectperformance.Youdo
notneedtoconsolidate
templatesuntilLab Managergeneratesanerrorrequestingthisoperation.
Youcanonlyconsolidatetemplatesthatareunpublishedandundeployed.Consolidationcantakeanextended
periodoftime,dependingonthedisksizeandstorageperformance.Consolidationreducesthefreespaceon
datastoresbecausethetemplatenolonger
benefitsfromdeltadisks.
To consolidate a virtual machine template
1Intheleftpane,clickVMTemplates.
2MovethepointeroverthetemplatenameandselectConsolidate.
3 SelectadatastoreandclickOK.

Discard the State for a Virtual Machine Template
WhenyousavethestateofavirtualmachinetemplatebyusingtheUndeploy‐SaveStateoptionorby
suspendingthevirtualmachinetemplate,Lab Managersavesinformationabouttheprocessortypeofthehost
onwhichthevirtualmachinetemplatewasdeployed.Lab Managerrequiresanavailablehostwitha
compatibleprocessor
typetoredeploythevirtualmachinetemplate.Ifprocessorincompatibilityissues
preventyoufromdeployingavirtualmachinetemplate,youcandiscardthestateinformation.Youcanalso
discardstatetofreeupstoragespace.
Youcanonlydiscardstateforundeployedvirtualmachinetemplateswithsavedstate.
To discard state for a virtual machine template
1Intheleft
pane,clickVMTemplates.
2MovethepointerovertheundeployedtemplatenameandselectDiscardState.
3ClickOK.

Modify Virtual Machine Template Properties
Bydefault,onlysystemadministrators,administratorswithrightsattheorganizationlevelandtemplate
creatorscanmodifythepropertiesofatemplate.Beforeyoumodifythepropertiesofatemplate,undeploythe
template.Ifitisdeploy ed,thenumberofpropertiesyoucanmodifyislimited.
