Priortoexportingavirtualmachinetemplate,Lab Manager
consolidatesit.Thisresults
inanincreaseinthediskspacerequiredtostorethevirtualmachinetemplate.The
exportedvirtualmachinetemplatemightalsorequireasignificantamountofdisk
spacedependingonthesizeofitsconsolidatedvirtualdisk.
To export a virtual machine template
1Intheleftpane,clickVMTemplates.
2Movethepointer
overthevirtualmachinetemplatenameandchooseExportfrom
themenu.
3Providethelocationandusercredentials:
EntertheUNCpathoftheSMBshare(relativetotheLab ManagerServer
system)whereyouwanttostorethefiles.Asamplepathis
\\10.6.1.246\VMwareLM\ExportTemplates.
UseEnglishcharactersfortheUNCpath.
IftheUNCfolderrequiresauthentication,specifytheusernameand
passwordtoaccessthefiles.
4ClickOKandconfirmtocontinuetheexportprocess.
Consolidating Virtual Machine Templates
Eachtimeyoucreatealinkedcloneofavirtualmachinetemplate,Lab Managerfreezes
thevirtualharddiskassociatedwiththeoriginalvirtualmachinetemplateandcreates
deltadiskstostorefuturechangestothecloneanditssource.Overtime,theincreasing
numberofstoreddeltadiskscanaffectperformance.
Youdonotneedtoconsolidate
virtualmachinetemplatesuntilLab Managergeneratesanerrorrequestingthis
operation.
Youcanonlyconsolidatevirtualmachinetemplatesthatareunpublishedand
undeployed.Consolidationcantakeanextendedperiodoftime,dependingonthedisk
sizeandstorageperformance.Consolidationreducesthefreespaceon
datastores
becausethevirtualmachinetemplatenolongerbenefitsfromdeltadisks.
NOTEEvenifyoudonothavetoconsolidatedisks,youcanusethisoperationtomove
avirtualmachinetemplatetoadifferentdatastore.
