TheVMTemplatespageappearswiththenewvirtualmachinetemplate.
Cloning Virtual Machine Templates
Youcancreatealinkedcloneorafullcloneofavirtualmachinetemplatetotake
advantageofsoftwarealreadyinstalledonthatvirtualmachinetemplate.
Alinkedcloneoperationgeneratesa“quick”copybycreatingadeltadiskinsteadof
copyinganentirevirtualharddisk.Thisoperationaddresses
virtualmachine
proliferationbyusingreferentialprovisioning,aprocessthatinvolvesstoringnew
changesbutrefersbacktoachainofdeltadisks.Foreachchange,Lab Managerfreezes
theoriginaldeltadiskandcreatesanewone.
Afullcloneoperationcopiesallthedeltadisksandthebasediskand
consolidatesthem
intoanewbasedisk.Theoriginalbasediskremainsunchanged.Afullcloneoperation
takeslongerthanalinkedcloneoperation.
Typically,youdonotcreatefullclones,exceptundertheseconditions:
Todismantlethestorageandmovethevirtualmachinetemplatetoadifferent
server.
Tomaximizeperformanceforvirtualmachines(forexample,forcertain
