Deploying Virtual Machines on High Availability Clusters
IfyoudeployavirtualmachineonaclusterwithVMwareHA,Lab Managerusesthe
samecalculationthatVirtualCenterhasforassessingfreeslotsavailableinthecluster.
Afterassessingthatthehostshaveenoughresources,Lab Managerpowersonthe
virtualmachines.Ifthehostsdonotmeetcompatibilityrequirements,the
deploy
operationfailsandLab Managerdisplaysamessage.

ThecalculationthatVirtualCenterandLab Managerusesisconservative.Ifnecessary,
disableitinVirtualCentertostopthiscalculation
inLab Manager.
To disable the calculation
1LogintotheVMware InfrastructureClient(VI Client).
2RightclicktheclusterandselectEditSettings.
3Intheleftpaneofthedialogbox,selectVMwareHA.
4IntheAdmissionControlsectionofthedialogbox,selectAllowvirtualmachines
tobepoweredoneveniftheyviolateavailabilityconstraints
andclickOK.
Undeploying Virtual Machines
UndeployingavirtualmachineunregistersitfromVirtualCenter.Youcanundeploya
virtualmachineandsaveitsstateorundeployavirtualmachineanddiscardthestate.
Savingthememorystateofvirtualmachineshelpsyoutodebugmemoryspecific
issuesandmakesvirtualmachinesreadyfordeploymentandusealmost
instantly.
IfanESXhostgoesofflineorsomeonemanuallyremovesavirtualmachinefrom
VirtualCenterinventory,thestandardundeployoperationdoesnotwork.Inthese
situations,see“UndeployingVirtualMachineswithForce”onpage 204.
To undeploy a virtual machine
1OntheWorkspacepage,movethepointeroveraconfigurationnameandchoose
Openfromthe
menu.
2OntheVirtualMachinestab,movethepointeroverthemachinenameandchoose
Undeploy‐SaveStateorUndeploy‐DiscardStatefromthemenu.
Ifthevirtualmachineispoweredoff,youcanonlychooseUndeploybecauseno
stateinformationisavailabletosaveordiscard.
