Locating an LDAP Server
BeforeenteringhostnameandportinformationforyourLDAPserver,youcanclickthe
LocateLDAPServerbuttontohaveLab ManagertrytolocateanavailableLDAP
server.
WhenyouclickLocateLDAPServer,Lab ManagerlooksforLDAPserversregistered
withtheDNSserverforthelocalcomputer.IfLab Manager
findsanLDAPserver,it
populatestheServerandPortfields.IfLab ManagerfindsmultipleLDAPservers,it
choosesonebasedontheDNSLDAPpriorityandweight.
LDAP Connection
ServerHostnameorIPaddressoftheLDAPserver.
Ifyoudonotspecifyaserver,LabManagerusesserverlessbinding(forActive
Directoryonly),whichconnectstoanyavailabledomaincontroller.Serverless
bindingrequiresthattheLab ManagerserverisinthesamedomainastheActive
Directorydomain
controllerandprovidesredundancyandloadbalancing
benefits.
PortIftheLDAPserverislisteningonanondefaultport,entertheportnumber
here.ForLDAP,thedefaultportis389;forLDAPS,thedefaultportis636.
BaseDistinguishedNameLocationintheLDAPdirectorywhereLab Manager
connects.
Lab ManagercandetectthebaseDNifyourLDAPserversupportsthis.Leavethis
fieldblankandclickTestLDAPSettingstodetermineifyourserversupportsbase
DNdetection.
VMwarerecommendsconnectingattheroot.Inwhichcase,you
wouldenterthe
domaincomponentsonly,forexample:DC=vmware,DC=com.
