EveryvirtualmachineusingastaticIPaddressingmodeforaNICconnectedtoa
physicalnetworkrequiresanIPaddressfromtheIPpoolofthephysicalnetwork.This
IPaddressstayswiththevirtualmachinethroughthevariousoperationsin
Lab Manager.Whenyoudeleteallinstancesofthevirtual
machinewiththisIPaddress,
Lab ManagerreleasestheIPaddresstotheIPpool.
Whenyoudeployaconfigurationinfencedmode(unlessyouusetheBlockInandOut
option),Lab ManagerassignsexternalIPaddressesfromthephysicalnetworkIPpool
tovirtualmachinesintheconfiguration.Youcanuse
theexternalIPaddresstoaccess
avirtualmachinefromoutsideafencedconfiguration,forexample.Whenyou
undeploythisconfiguration,Lab ManagerreleasestheexternalIPaddresses.
YoucancontrolthelengthoftimeLab ManagerreservesreleasedIPaddressesbefore
returningthemtotheIPpool.See“LabManagerPreferences”on
page 189.
Forfencedconfigurations(exceptthoseusingtheBlockInandOutoption),
Lab ManagercreatesavirtualrouterthatrequirestwoIPaddresses.Theaddressesfor
avirtualrouterreturntotheIPpoolwhenyouundeploytheconfiguration.
To monitor an IP Pool
1Intheleftpane,clickResources.
2OnthePhysicalNetworkstab,move
thepointeroveraphysicalnetworkname
andchooseIPPoolfromthemenu.
TheIPPoolpagedisplaysthenetworkname,theIPpool,andthenumberofused
andtotalIPaddresses.
ThetableincludesinformationaboutIPaddressesfromthepoolthatareinuse.
Youcansee
theIPaddress,addressingmode,machinename,configurationname,
andorganizationanduser.TheDeallocateIncolumnindicatestheamountoftime
remainingbeforeanunusedexternalIPaddressbecomesavailable.
