Exporting Configurations
Youcanexportanundeployedconfigurationandallitsvirtualmachinefilesfrom
eithertheWorkspaceorLibrarytoanSMBshare.Thisoperationrequiresthatyouhave
asharedfolderwithfullcontrolpermissionsattheshareandfilesystemlevel.
ExportoperationsrequireanopenSMBportonthe
ESXhosts.AlthoughLabManager
openstheportduringinstallation,makesurethattheportwasnotclosedafterthe
install.Tochecktheportstatus,usetheesxcfg-firewall -q smbClientcommand
oneachhost.
Priortoexportingaconfiguration,Lab M anagerconsolidatesthevirtualmachinesin
theconfiguration.Thisresultsinanincrease
inthediskspacerequiredtostorethe
virtualmachines.Theexportedvirtualmachinesmightalsorequireasignificant
amountofdiskspacedependingonthesizeoftheirconsolidatedvirtualdisks.
To export a configuration
1Intheleftpane,clickWorkspaceorLibrary.
2MovethepointerovertheconfigurationnameandchooseExportfrom
themenu.
3EntertheUNCpathofthedirectory(relativetotheLab ManagerServersystem)
whereyouwantyourconfigurationfilesstored.
Asamplepathis\\10.6.1.246\VMwareLM\ExportConfigs.UseEnglish
charactersfortheUNCpath.
4Entertheusernameandpasswordfortheexportdirectory,ifnecessary.
5ClickOKandconfirmto
continuetheexportprocess.
Discarding State for Configurations
WhenyousavethestateofaconfigurationbyeitherusingtheUndeploy‐SaveState
optionorsuspendingthevirtualmachinesintheconfiguration,Lab Managersaves
informationabouttheprocessortypeofthehostonwhichthevirtualmachineswere
deployed.Lab Managerrequiresanavailablehostwithacompatibleprocessortype
to
redeploytheconfiguration.
Thisrequirementespeciallyaffectsconfigurationsthatusefencing,becausefencing
requiresthatallvirtualmachinesintheconfigurationaredeployedonthesamehost.If
processorincompatibilityissuespreventyoufromdeployingaconfiguration,youcan
discardthestateinformation.
Youcanalsodiscardstatetofree
upstoragespace.
