Deploy Options
ReviewtheoptionsfortheDeployoperation:
Specifywhethertodeploytheconfigurationinfencedmode.
Fencingisatechnologythatisolatesor“fences”groupsofmachinesonthesame
networkfromothermachines.Forcompleteinformationonthisfeatureand
consequencesofdeployingafencedconfigurationafterdeployingitwithout
fencingandsavingitsstate,seeAppendix C,
“NetworkFencing,”onpage 185.
AllowTrafficInandOutVirtualmachinescancommunicatewithmachines
outsidethefenceandmachinesoutsidethefencecancommunicatewith
virtualmachinesinthefencedconfiguration.
AllowTrafficOutVirtualmachinesinafencedconfigurationcaninitiate
communicationtomachinesoutsidethefence,andcanreceivemessagesback
onthesameconnection.Machinesoutsidethefencecannotinitiate
communicationtovirtualmachinesinthefencedconfiguration.
Thisoptionisusefulwhenvirtualmachinesneedtoobtain
dataorexecute
codeoutsidethefence(asseenwithWebservicesordatabases),butdonot
wanttoreceivemessagesthatmaydisrupttesting.
BlockTrafficInandOutNetworktrafficdoesnottravelacrossthefence.
Virtualmachinesinafencedconfigurationcannotcommunicatewith
machinesoutsideofthefence,andmachinesoutsidethefencecannot
communicatewithvirtualmachinesinthefencedconfiguration.
Thisoptionisusefulinthesecircumstances:
Youaretestingsoftwareviruseswhichneedtoremainisolatedfromthe
network.
Youaretestingaclientserverapplicationinisolation.
Deployingaconfigurationinfencedmodeplacesallthevirtualmachinesona
singleManagedServersystem.YoumusthaveaManagedServersystem
connectedtothestorageserverwherethetemplatesthatserveasthebasisofthis
configurationreside.The
ManagedServersystemmusthavesufficientresources,
suchasmemory,slots,andfences.
