Updating Templates
Ifyouneedtochangeanexistingtemplatewithanupdate,suchasapatchorservice
pack,completethesetasks:
Unpublishthetemplate.
Deploythetemplate.
Installthenecessaryupdates.
Shutdownthevirtualmachineaftercompletingallthenecessaryupdates.
Undeploythetemplate.
Publishthetemplate.
(Optional)Sharethetemplate.

virtualmachineinvolvesloadingitfromavirtualCD.Refertothatsectionfor
guidelinesoncompletingthesebulletedtasks.
Importing Templates
ImportingatemplateimpliesbringingavirtualmachineexternaltotheLab Manager
systemintothesystem.YoucanimportanexistingvirtualmachinefromSMBorVMFS
storagetoserveasatemplate.Forexample,refertotheinstructionsinthissectionfor
VMFSstorageifyouhaveanexistingvirtual
machineonanESXServersystemandyou
wanttoimportitasatemplateunderLab Managercontrol.
YoucanimportavirtualmachinethatLab Managerwasnotawareof,oryoucan
importavirtualmachinethatwaspreviouslyexportedbyLab Manager.Lab Manager
changestheMACaddressofallimported
virtualmachinesexceptfortheonesina
suspendedstate.
Thesetupforthevirtualmachineisprimarilystoredinthesefiles:
Virtualmachinedisk(.vmdk)file.Youcanhavemultiple.vmdkfiles.
Virtualmachineconfiguration(.vmxforVMware)file.Thisfileisapproximately
15K.
