Option Description
Clone Createsadeltadiskinsteadofcopyinganentirevirtualharddisk.This
operationaddressesvirtualmachineproliferationbyusing“referential
provisioning.”Thisprocessinvolvesstoringnewchangesbutreferring
backtoachainofdeltadisks.Foreachchange,Lab Managerfreezesthe
originaldeltadiskandcreates a new
one.
Copy Createsacomplete(deep)copyofthetemplate.Copyingdoesnotusedelta
disks,butrathercreatesanewtemplatethatisaconsolidatedversionofthe
originaltemplate.
Typically,youdonotcopyatemplateunlessyouneedtodismantlethe
storageandmovethevirtualmachinetoadifferent
server.
Thisoperationtakesalongertimethanthecloneoperation.
NOTE:IfaLab ManageradministratorchoosestohidehighI/Ooperations
fromnonadministratorusers,thenthoseuserscannotcopytemplates.See
“ServerPreferences”onpage 150.
Consolidate Collapsesthedeltadisksthatmightaffectperformanceintoonemaster
disk.Usethis
optionwhenperformanceisslowandthevirtualmachine
chainlengthistenormore.(Toviewthechainlength,choosePropertiesin
themouseovermenu.)
Consolidatingcanimproveperformance,butrequiresadditionaldisk
space.
NOTE:IfaLab ManageradministratorchoosestohidehighI/Ooperations
fromnonadministratorusers,then
thoseuserscannotconsolidate

Delete Removesatemplatefromthetemplatelist.
