Choosing a Destination for a New Virtual Machine
Yourdestinationvirtualmachinecanbeoneoftwocategories:

Unsupported Clusters
IfyouareconvertingyourvirtualmachinetoruninESXServermanagedbyVirtualCenter,andyouwantto
haveaclusterasthedestination,thecluster’sVMwareDRSsettingsmustbesettomanual.Converterdoesnot
supportasdestinationsclustersinwhichtheDRSissettopartiallyautomated
orfullyautomated.
Choose a VirtualCenter Server Virtual Machine Destination
UsethisprocedureifyouareconvertingthevirtualmachinetoruninESXServermanagedbyVirtualCenter.
To select the destination for a converted virtual machine
1ClickNextontheDestinationpagetomovetotheDestinationTypepage.
2 SelectVMwareInfrastructureVirtualMachinefromthedrop‐downmenuandclickNext.
3OntheDestinationLoginpage,login
totheVirtualCenterserverdestinationandfollowthesesteps:
a Choosethedestinationserverinthedrop‐downmenuortypethenameoftheserverifitisnotlisted.
bTypeyourusernameandthepasswordforthedestinationserver.
cClickNext.
4OntheVirtualMachineNameandFolderpage,assignanametothevirtualmachine.
5IntheVirtualMachineInventoryLocationpane,chooseafolderintheVirtualCenterinventory.
TheVirtualCenterinventorymightcontainmultiplehosts,clusters,anddatacenters.
6ClickNext.
7OntheHostorClusterpage,specifytheresourcesfortheconvertedvirtualmachine,asfollows:
a Selectthehost,cluster(forVirtualCenterserversonly),orresourcepoolwithinahostorclusterfrom
whichtorunthevirtualmachine.
bIfyouselectaclusterinmanualmode,ontheHostpagechoosethespecifichostforthevirtual
machine.
cClickNext.
8 (Optional)Todistributedisksoverseveraldatastoresorto
placethevirtualmachineconfigurationfileand
eachdiskonaseparatedatastore,dothefollowing:
aClickAdvancedtoseethelistofdisksandthevirtualmachineconfigurationfile.
b Choosethedatastoreforeachdiskandfilefromthedrop‐downmenus.
Ifinsufficientspaceisavailable,anerrormessage
appearsstatingtherequiredamount.
