Remove System Restore Checkpoints
VMwarerecommendsthatyouremoveallSystemRestorecheckpoints,regardlessofthecloningmode,unless
youwantthetargetvirtualmachinetobeareplicaofthesourcesystem.RemovingallSystemRestore
checkpointspreventsthetargetmachinefromrevertingtoapreconversionstate.Restoringacheckpointinthe
targetvirtual
machinethatwascreatedbeforecloningthesourcemachinecandamagethesystemandcause
thetargetvirtualmachinetobecomeunbootable.
To remove System Restore checkpoints for Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2003
OntheCustomizationpage,selectRemoveallsystemrestorecheckpoints.
SystemRestoreisenabledonWindowsVistaandWindowsXPsystemsbydefault.ForWindowsVista,if
you
aredoingvolume‐basedfile‐levelcloning,SystemRestorecheckpointsareautomaticallyremovedfromthe
targetvirtualmachine,regardlessofthecheckbox.Ifyouaredoingdisk‐basedcloningorvolume‐level
block‐basedcloning,deselectingthecheckboxinstructsConvertertokeeptheSystemRestorecheckpoints
in
thetargetvirtualmachine.
