Selecting a Conversion Procedure
Theprocedureforyourconversioncanvary,dependingonyourvirtualmachinesourceanddestination
choices.Theapproachyoutakeforcreatingyourvirtualmachineisdeterminedbythefollowingfactors:

(ESXServer),avirtualappliance,orastandalonevirtualmachine.
ThetypeofdestinationyouareconvertingtoESX Server,ESXServermanagedbyVirtualCenter,a
virtualappliance,oraVMwarestandalonevirtualmachine.

Acronis True Image 9,MicrosoftVirtualPCandVirtualServer,Symantec BackupExecServer Recovery

Thefollowingtypesofdiskconversionareavailable,dependingonyoursourceanddestinationmachines:
ConvertalldisksandmaintainsizeChoosethisoptiontoconvertalldisksunchanged.Thisistheonly
choiceifthevirtualmachineyouareconvertinghasaLinuxguestoperatingsystem.
SelectvolumesandresizetosaveoraddspaceChoosethisoptiontospecifyaspecificsize.
CreateaseparatediskforeachvolumeChoosethisoptiontocreateaseparatediskforeachvolume.
(Theactiveandsystemvolumesarenotseparatediftheyresideonthesamedisk.)Thenyoucanmigrate
disksacrossindependentdatastores.
Whenyouexportavirtualappliance,youmustselect
alldisksforaconversionandmaintainthesizeofallthe
disksonthetargetmachine.
