Cloning Modes
Converterimplementstwocloningmodes:diskbasedcloningandvolumebasedcloning.
Volume-Based Cloning
Convertersupportsvolumebasedcloningforhotandcoldcloningandforimportationofexistingvirtual
machines.
Involumebasedcloning,allvolumesinthedestinationvirtualmachinearebasicvolumes,regardlessofthe
typeinthecorrespondingsourcevolume.Filelevelorblocklevelvolumebasedcloningisperformed,
depending
onyoursizeselections:
Vol um ebasedfilelevelcloningPerformedwhenanysizesmallerthantheoriginalisselected.
Vol um ebasedblocklevelcloningPerformedwhenthevolumesizeismaintainedorextended.
Dependingonthecloningmode,sometypesofsourcevolumesmightnotbesupportedasfollows:
Coldcloning(ConverterBootCD)supportsalltypesofdynamicvolumes,butdoesn’tsupport
Windows NT 4faulttolerantvolumes.WindowsNT4withmirroredvolumesissupported.
VirtualmachineimportingsupportsbasicvolumesandalltypesofdynamicvolumesexceptRAID.It
doesn’tsupportWindows NT 4faulttolerantvolumes.WindowsNT4withmirroredvolumesis
supported.Onlymasterbootrecord(MBR)disksaresupported.GUIDpartitiontable(GPT)disksarenot
supported.
HotcloningsupportsalltypesofsourcevolumesrecognizedbyWindows,exceptWindows NT 4
faulttolerantvolumes.WindowsNT4withmirroredvolumesissupported.
