In Privileged EXEC mode, enter the vcs command with options to set the
VCS ID, RBridge ID and enable logical chassis mode for the switch. After
you execute the below command you are asked if you want to apply the
default configuration and reboot the switch; answer ‘Yes’.
sw0# vcs vcsid 1 rbridge-id 21 logical-chassis enable
This operation will perform a VCS cluster mode transition for this
local node with new parameter settings. This will change the
configuration to default and reboot the switch. Do you want to
continue? [y/n]:
Y
Note: To create a Logical Chassis cluster, the user needs to perform the
above steps on every VDX in the VCS fabric, changing only the RBridge
ID each time, based on Figure 45. Any global and local configuration
changes now made are distributed automatically to all nodes in the
logical chassis cluster.
You can enter the configuration mode for any VDX in the cluster from the
cluster principal node using their respective Rbridge ID.
Optionally, the cluster can also be managed by a Virtual IP ( in Logical
Chassis and Fabric Cluster mode only) which is tied to the principal
node/switch in the cluster. The management interface of the principal
switch can be accessed by means of this Virtual IP address, as shown:
sw0(config)# vcs virtual ip address 10.246.54.150
In the above example, the entire fabric can be managed with one Virtual
IP- 10.246.54.150.
Note: For details on Logical Chassis and Virtual Cluster IP, please refer to
the Network OS Administration Guide, v4.1.0.
Every switch is assigned the default host name of “sw0,” but must be
changed for easy recognition and management using the switch-
attributes command. Use the switch-attributes command to set host
name, as shown:
sw0# configure terminal
sw0(config)# switch-attributes 21 host-name BRCD6740-RB21
After you have enabled the Logical Chassis mode and assigned switch
names on each node in the cluster, run the show vcs command to
determine which node has been assigned as the cluster principal node.
This node can be used to configure the entire VCS fabric. The arrow (>)
denotes the cluster principal node. The asterisk (*) denotes the current
logged-in node.
