Before starting the switch configurations, make sure you have the required
licenses for the VDX 6740 Switches available. With NOS version 4.1.0 or
later Brocade VCS Fabric license is built into the code so you will only
require port upgrade licenses depending on the number of port density
required in the setup. For this deployment, we will be assuming that
48x10GbE ports are activated on the base Brocade 6740s in the setup and
we will be applying one 40GbE Port Upgrade License on each switch
which will enable two 40GbE ports on each box. We will use these ports for
Inter Switch Links (ISLs) between the two VDXs.
A. Displaying the Switch License ID
The switch license ID identifies the switch for which the license is valid. You
will need the switch license ID when you activate a license key, if
applicable.
To display the switch license ID, enter the show license id command in the
privileged EXEC mode, as shown.

B. Applying the Licenses to the switches
Once you have the 40G Port Upgrade license strings generated from
Brocade’s Licensing portal for both the switches, you can apply them to
the switches, as shown.
