Configure Cost at the Entity Level
Thebaseratesdefinedinacostmodelareglobalvaluesandcanbe applieduniformlytotheentitiesand
hierarchiesforwhichyougenerateareport.Inrealtime,however,youmightwantto chargeeachentityoraset
ofentitiesdifferently.Thatis,theresourceusagecostsfor
onevirtualmachinemightdifferfromthatfortheother .
Thiscanbeachiev edonlyifthecostsforeachentityorasetofentitiesinthehierarchyareconfiguredseparately.
Youmightalsowantchargesomeglobalfixedcostsan d entity ‐specificlocalfixedcostsfo rsomeof
theentities.

View Cost Configuration of an Entity
Youcanviewentity‐specificcostconfigurationdetailsintheConfigureCosttab.
To view the cost configuration at the entity level
1IntheConfigureCosttab,clickViewEntityCostConfiguration.
2 Selectahierarchyfromthelistofhierarchies.
3 Expandthehierarchyandselecttherequiredentity.
4Enterthetimeperiodforwhichyouwanttoviewtheentity‐specific
costconfigurationdetails.
5 SelectthecostmodelandclickFetch.
Theentity‐specificcostconfigurationdetailsfortheselectedentityandcostmodelandthespecified
durationaredisplayed.Iftheentityisnotconfiguredforthespecifieddurationorcostmodel,amessage
statingthesameisdisplayedonthe
page.
Edit Cost Configuration of an Entity
Theentity‐specificcostconfigurationdetailscanbesetfromtheConfigureCosttab.Thecostconfigurationis
appliedonanentityforthespecifiedcostmodelandtimeperiod.Thesecostconfigurationdetailswillbe
consideredwhenareportisgeneratedontheentityusingthespecifiedcostmodel.
To configure the cost at the entity level

theConfigureCosttab,clickEditEntityCostConfiguration.
2 Selecttherequiredhierarchyfromthelistofhierarchies.
3 Expandthehierarchyandselecttheentityforwhichyouwanttoconfigurethecosts.
4FromtheCostModellist,selectthecostmodelthatyouwanttoapplyontheentity.
5Specifythe
durationforwhichthecostconfigurationwillbeeffective.
ThedefaultselectionisUpdatefromnowonwards,indicatingthatthecostconfigurationdetailswillbe
effectivefromthetimeofsettingthesedetailsontheentitytillinfinity.
Ifyouwanttosetthecostconfigurationdetailsforaspecificduration,
selectUpdatefortheeffective
periodandspecifythestartandenddateofthetimeperiod.Thedateshavetobeenteredin the
mm/dd/yyyyformat.Iftheendtimeisnotspec ified,thecostconfigurationdetailswillbeeffectivetill
infinity.Youcanviewtheexistingcostconfiguration
detailsforthespecifiedtimeperiodbyclickingFetch.
6 Selectoneofthefollowingbillingsettings:
Don’tchange(default):Selectthisoptionifyoudonotwanttochangebillingsetting.
