Manage Cost Models
vCenterChargebackprovidesadefaultcostmodelcalledDefaultChargebackCostModel.Youcanstartusing
theapplicationbycreatingachargebackhierarchyandgeneratingbasicreportsusingthiscostmodel.Youcan
modifythiscostmodelasperyourrequirements.Youcanalsocreateandmanagemultipleothercostmodels.

Create a Cost Model
YoucancreatemultiplecostmodelsinvCenterChargeback.Definingmultiplecostmodelsenablesyouto
chargedifferentsetsofentitiesorhierarchiesdifferently.Italsoenablesyoutocomparethecostscalculated
usingdifferentcostmodelsforahierarchyorasetofentities.
To create a cost model
1IntheManageCosttab,click
CostModels.
Atablelistingallthecostmodelscreatedintheapplicationisdisplayed.
2ClickCreate.
TheCostModelscreenisdisplayed.
3EnterthefollowinginformationintheGeneraltab:
Name:Nameforthecostmodel.Thisismandatoryinformation.Thecharacterlimitforthecost
modelnameis255characters.
Description:Anoptionaldescriptionofthecostmodel.Thecharacterlimitforthedescriptionis
255 characters.
4 SelecttheBillingPolicytab.
5Settheperiodforwhichthebillingpolicywillbeeffective.
ThedefaultselectionisUpdatefromnowonwards,indicatingthebillingpolicywillbeeffectivefromthe
timeofcreation
ofthecostmodeltillinfinity.
TheotheroptionisUpdatefortheeffectiveperiod.Ifyouselectthisoption,youmustspecifythestart
andenddateoftheperiodforwhichthebillingpolicywillbeeffective.Youmustenterthedatesinthe
mm/dd/yyyyformat.Iftheend
dateisnotspecified,thebillingpolicywillbeeffectivefromthespecified
startdatetillinfinity.
6 SelecttherequiredpolicyfromtheBillingPolicylist.
Toknowabouteachbillingpolicy,referto“BillingPolicy”onpage 58.
7IntheBaseRatestab,settheperiodforwhichthebaserateswill
beeffective.
ThedefaultselectionisUpdatefromnowonwards,indicatingthebaserateswillbeeffectivefromthe
timeofcreationofthecostmodeltillinfinity.
TheotheroptionisUpdatefortheeffectiveperiod.Ifyouselectthisoption,youmustspecifythestart
andenddateof
theperiodforwhichthebaserateswillbeeffective.Youmustenterthedatesinthe
mm/dd/yyyyformat.Iftheenddateisnotspecified,thebaserateswillbeeffectivefromthespecifiedstart
datetillinfinity.
