Baserateisaglobalratethatyouwanttochargeforaunitofchargeablecomputingresourceusedorallocated.
Forexample:

Ratefactoristhemultiplicationfactortobeusedalongwiththebaseratetocalculatethechargeforaunitof
chargeablecomputingresourceusedorallocated.Ratefactorsareusefulwhenyouwanttochargetheentities
inahierarchydifferently.Theratefactorsenableyoutoapplya
costthatisamultipleorafractionofthebase
rate.Theratefactorvaluecanbebetween0and999.99.Theprecisionisuptotwodecimalplaces.Forexample:
Fixed Cost
Afixedcostisadefinitecostthatcanbechargedonanentity.vCenterChargebackletsyoucreatetwotypes
offixedcosts:globalfixedcostandlocalfixedcost.
Globalfixedcostisaperiodicallychargedcostforaresourceoraservice.Forexample,theannualmaintenance
cost
forthenetworkorforeachserver.Coststhatareapplicabletoalmostalltheentitiesandhierarchiescan
bedefinedasglobalfixedcostsintheapplication.Thisletsyouupdatesuchcostsperiodicallyandmanage
themcentrally.Italsoensuresthatalltheentitiesandhierarchiesareuniformlycharged
forcommonservices
andresources.
Localfixedcostisacostthatisspecifictoanentity,agroupofentities,ortoanentirehierarchy.Forexample,
therealestatecostforphysicalstorageoftheservers.Thiscostdiffersbasedontheactualgeographiclocation.
Billing Policy
Abillingpolicydeterminesthecosttypesandtheamountofchargeablecomputingresourcesunitstobe
consideredforcalculatingthechargebackcost.vCenterChargebackprovidesthefollowingbillingpolicies:
FixedCost:Onlythefixedcostsassociatedwitheachentityinthechargebackhierarchyisconsideredfor
billing.Theactualusageofthechargeablecomputingresourcesisignored.
ActualUsage:Inthispolicy,theactualutilizationofthechargeablecomputingresourcesofthevirtual
machinesisdetermined.Thetotalcostisthencalculatedbyusingthebaseratessetinthecostmodeland
theactualusedunitsofthechargeablecomputingresources.
Reservation:Thispolicytakesintoaccountthecapacityofachargeableresourcereservedforavirtual
machine.vCenterServerallowsonlyCPUandmemoryreservation.ThisreservedcapacityofCPUand
memoryalongwiththeactualutilizationofotherchargeablecomputingresourcesisusedforcalculating
thetotalcost.
