Chapter 2 Installing vCenter Chargeback
5Providethepathfortheinstallationdirectory,andclickNext.
Ensurethattheinstallationdirectorypathhasatleastonedirectory(forexample,
C:\vCenterChargeback10\)anddoesnotpointtojustadrive(forexample,C:\).Ifthespecified
installationdirectoryexists,ensurethatitisempty.Ifthespecifiedinstallation
directorydoesnotexist,
theinstallerwillcreatethedirectory.
6ProvidethefollowingvCenterChargebackdatabase‐relatedinformation,andclickNext:
DatabaseType:ThetypeofdatabaseusedtocreatethevCenterChargebackdatabase.Thiscanbe
eitherSQLSERVERorORACLE.
DatabaseURL:TheIPaddressofthesystemonwhichthevCenterChargebackdatabaseisinstalled
alongwiththeportatwhichthedatabaselistenerserviceisrunningorthevCenterChargeback
databaseinstancename.
ForOracleDatabase,thedatabaseURLcanbeinanyofthefollowingformats:

IftheinstallerconnectstothedatabaseanddetectsavCenterChargebackschema,adialogisdisplayed.

8ReviewtheinformationdisplayedonthePre‐InstallationSummaryscreen,andclickInstall.
Theinstallerstartsinstallingthedatacollector.Iftheinstallationissuccessful,theURLforaccessing
vCenterChargebackisdisplayed.
9NotethisURL,andclickDone.
Afteryouinstallaseparatedatacollector,theDataCollectorservicestartsandrunsautomatically.Youcan
manuallystartandstoptheservicefromtheStart > Programs > VMware > VMware vCenter Chargeback
DataCollectormenu.
Deploying vCenter Chargeback as a Virtual Appliance
YoucandeployavCenterChargebackinstanceasavirtualappliance.Todothis,youmustfirstdownloadthe
cbm-ovf-1.0.0-<build_number>.zipfileandextractthecontents.ThisZIPfilecontainsthefollowingfiles:
system.vmdk:Thevitualmachinediskfileforthevirtualappliance.
vCenterChargeback.ovf:Thevirtualappliancedeploymentfile.
ThevCenterChargebackvirtualapplianceisonlyforevaluationpurpose.Youmust,therefore,useonly
evaluationlicenses.

OTEEnsurethatyouprovidethedetailsofthevCenterChargebackdatabasethatthedatacollector
mustsynchronizewiththevCenterServerdatabases.

OTEIftheinstallationfails,theuninstallerstarts automaticallyand removesallthecomponentsinstalled.
CAUTIONThedatacollectorsystemtimemustbethesameasthevCenterChargebackandvCenter
Chargebackdatabasesystemtime.Thatis,thesystemtimeofallthesemachinesshouldbeinsync.
