Chapter 2 Installing vCenter Chargeback
Upgrade vCenter Chargeback
YoucanupgradeanexistingvCenterChargebackinstancetoanewerorthelatestversion.Youmustfirst
downloadtheinstallerfile,vCenter-CB-1.0.1-<build_number>.zip,andextractthecontentsofthisZIP
filetothemachineonwhichyouwanttoinstalltheapplication.Ifyoutrytoruntheinstallerfrom
ashared
locationonthenetwork,theinstallermightfail.
Beforeyoustarttheupgradeprocess,ensurethatthevCenterChargebackserviceandthecorrespondingdata
collectorservicesarestopped.Inthecaseofaclusterinstallation,allthevCenterChargebackservicesandthe
datacollectorservicesmustbestopped.If
anyvCenterChargebackrelatedserviceisrunning,theupgrade
processfails.
To upgrade the application
1RunthevCenter-CB.exefile.
Theinstallationwizardisdisplayed.
2ClickNextontheIntroductionscreen.
3Accepttheend‐userlicenseagreement,andclickNext.
IftheinstallerdetectsanolderversionofvCenterChargeback,anAlertdialogboxisdisplayed.
4ClickUpgrade
to1.0.1.0intheAlertdialog.
5 (Optional)IfthevCenterChargebackdatabaseisanSQLServerdatabase,theinstallerdisplaysthe
DatabaseConfigurationscreen.YoucanchangetheSQLAuthenticationModeoptiononthisscreen.
IfyouselectWindowsAuthenticationastheauthenticationtype,youmustprovidetheWindowsuser
account
name.TheusernamemustbeoftheformDomainName\UserName.Also,theusermusthavethe
Log on as a servicepermission.
TheinstallercheckswhetherallthevCenterChargebackanddatacollectorservicesarestopped.Ifany
serviceisrunning,theinstallerdisplaysanAlertdialogstatingthesame.
6Reviewtheinformationdisplayedon
thePre‐InstallationSummaryscreen,andclickInstall.
Theinstallerstartsupgradingthevariouscomponents.Iftheupgradeprocessissuccessful,theURLfor
accessingthevCenterChargebackapplicationisdisplayed.
7NotetheURL,andclickDone.
Foraclusterinstallation,youmustupgradeeachvCenterChargebackinstanceinthecluster.
Before
upgradingthefirstinstanceofacluster ,alltherelatedservicesmustbestopped.Whenthefirstinstanceis
upgraded,thecorrespondingvCenterChargebackdatabaseisalsoupgraded.Aftertheupgrade,thevCenter
Chargebackserviceandthecorrespondingdatabase,datacollector,andloadbalancerservicesarerestarted.
Youmustthen
upgradeeachoftheinstancesinthecluster.Aftereachupgrade,theservicesrelatedtothat
instanceisautomaticallyrestarted.
Starting the vCenter Chargeback Application
AlltheservicesrequiredforsuccessfullyrunningandaccessingvCenterChargebackareconfiguredtostart
automaticallywhenthemachineispoweredonandtheoperatingsystemisstarted.Youcanalsomanually
controltheseservices.
Therelatedservicesare:
VMwarevCenterChargebackService:Startingthisservicestartstheapplication.
VMwarevCenterChargebackLoadBalancerService:Startingthisservicestartstheloadbalancer.
This servicemustberunningsothattheloadbalancercanreceiveuserrequestsandroutethemtothe
applicationforthemtobeserviced.
