VMwarevCenterAppSpeedprovidesperformancemanagementandservice‐levelreportingforapplications
runningwithinvirtualappliances.AppSpeedanalyzesthetrafficthatflowsbetweenendusers,Web
applications,andback‐endservers.Thisanalysisprovidesvisibilityintomultitierapplications.Theanalysis
enablesyoutorapidlyidentifyperformanceproblemsthatoriginatefrominadequate
resourceallocationand
applicationproblems.
AppSpeedprobescaptureingoingandoutgoingtrafficserversthatarerunningonhostsonwhichtheprobes
aredeployed.ThisfeatureenablesAppSpeedtomonitorthereal‐timeenduserexperienceforalltransaction
requests,analyzingperformancethroughalllayers.
AppSpeedestablishesbaselinesbasedonapplication
behaviorovertimeandcomparesreal‐timemetricsto
service‐leveltargets.Inaddition,AppSpeedmaintainshistoricalmonitoringdatathatyoucanusetoanalyze
trendsandfortroubleshootingpurposes.Youcanidentifywhichcomponentisresponsibleforaperformance
problemandidentifythelikelysolution.YoucanalsoconfigureAppSpeed
togeneratereal‐timeeventsin
responsetotransaction‐levelperformanceandavailabilityproblems.Optionally,youcansendemail
notificationswheneventsaregenerated.
AppSpeedincludesawiderangeofpredefinedviewingoptionstofacilitatethean alysisofperformancedata.
Thepredefinedviewsincorporatedifferentcombinationsofdata,presentedintabular
andgraphicalformat.
Differentsetsofviewsareavailab l ewhenyouselectaserv erobject,anapplicationobject,oratransactionobject.
Accessing the AppSpeed User Interface
YouaccessAppSpeedfromwithintheVMwarevSphereClient.
Thefirsttimeyouaccesstheuserinterface,AppSpeedpromptsyoutoinstalltheprobes.See“Deployan
AppSpeedProbe”onpage 28.
Access the AppSpeed user interface
1ClickHome>SolutionsandApplicationsandclicktheAppSpeedicon.
ThenamespaceappearsintheConnecttotextbox.If
thedisplayednameisincorrectorisnotinthelist,
typethecorrectnamespace.
2 (Optional)IftheAppSpeedicondoesnotappear,verifythattheAppSpeedplug‐inisenabledinthe
Plug‐insmenu.
3ClickthetabfortherequiredAppSpeedmodule,whereyoucanperformthefollowingtasks:
Analysis:Viewreal‐timeandhistoricalperformancedata.
TopologyMap:Viewthelocationofaspecificapplication,server,ortransactiononyournetw ork,and
toviewtherelationshipsbetw eenthemonitoredobjects.Thedefaultmapviewfocusesonapplications,
showingtheconnectionsbetweenapplications andtheserversonwhichtheyoperate.
Administration:Managevariousadministrativefunctions,includinginstallinganddeploying
probes,configuringSSLkeysandmailnotificationsettings,addingoreditingAppSpeedlicense
keys,editingtopologyobjects,andcreatingandviewingsupportinformation.
