2. Make a remote desktop connection to a system at the DR site. Lauch the vSphere client an log into
vCenter and select Site Recovery application. A login prompt appears to collect credentials for the
primary vCenter server.
3. The connection fails due to the primary site disaster. The site recovery screen indicates that the paired
site (in this case, the primary site) is “Not Responding” because that site is down.
4. From the tree on the left, select the recovery plan to be executed and click Run. Respond to the
confirmation dialog and click Run Recovery Plan.
5. SRM runs the recovery plan. Note that the attempt to power down virtual machines at the primary site
fails because they are inaccessible.
6. SRM breaks the SnapMirror relationship, making the DR site volumes writable, and mounts the
datastores to the ESX hosts. The virtual machines are recovered and begin booting.
SRM will mount NFS datastores during failover in the same way that it mounts datastores during DR
testing, by alternating datastore mounts on IP addresses that were entered into the NFS IP Addresses
field in the array setup dialog.
7. Connect to one of the virtual machines and verify access to the domain.
8. Continue on with whatever steps are necessary to complete a disaster recovery for business-critical
applications and services.
