Update Firefox 2.0.0.3 to Firefox 3 with Application Sync
ThisexampleshowstheApplicationSyncupdateprocessforFirefox.
TheupdateprocessinvolveseditingthePackage.inifile.The AppSyncURLparameterrequiresaURLpath.
ThinAppsupportsHTTP,HTTPS,andfileprotocols.ForinformationaboutallApplicationSyncparameters,

To update Firefox 2.0.0.3 to Firefox 3
1CaptureFirefox2.0.0.3
andFirefox3intoseparatepackages.
2Verifythattheprimarydatacontainernameisthesameforbothpackages.
Theprimarydatacontainer,determinedduringthesetupcaptureprocess,isthe filethatcontainsthevirtual
filesystemandvirtualregistry.Ifyouhav eaFirefox2.0.0.3packagethathasMozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3.exe
as
thenameoftheprimarydatacontainer,andyouhaveaFirefox3packagethathasMozilla Firefox 3.dat
asthenameoftheprimarydatacontainer,changethenameintheShortcutparametertoacommon
name.Forexample,youcanuseFirefox.exeasaname.

YoumustuncommenttheAppSyncURLparametertoenable
theutility.

Forexample,youcancopyanexecutablefileofthelatestFirefoxversiontoamappednetworkdrive
andenterapathtothatlocationasthevalueoftheAppSyncURLparameter.IfZ:isthemappeddrive

MakesuretheAppSyncURLpathisthesameinbothPackage.inifilesandpointstotheupdated
version.
4Inthecapturedapplicationfolder,double‐clickthebuild.batfiletorebuildtheapplicationpackage.
Forexample,
aFirefox2.0.0.3pathtothebuild.batfilemightbeC:\Program Files\VMware\VMware
ThinApp\Captures\Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3\build.bat.
5ToupdateFirefox2.0.0.3toFirefox3,starttheexecutablefile,suchasMozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3.exe,
inthe\bindirectory.
WhenyoustarttheapplicationbeforetheexpirationtimesetintheAppSyncExpirePeriodparameterof
thePackage.inifile,ThinAppdownloadsthe
updateinthebackgroundasyouworkwiththe
application.Thenexttimeyoustarttheapplication,youcanseetheupdatedversion.
Whenyoustarttheapplicationafterthepackageexpires,ThinAppdownloadstheupdateinthe
foregroundandpreventsyoufromworkingwiththeapplication.Whenthedownloadis
ready,ThinApp
restartstheapplicationwiththenewversion.
Fix an Incorrect Update with Application Sync
IfyouhavemultipleApplicationSyncdownloadupdates,suchasmultipleMicrosoftOfficeupdates,anda
certainupdatehasanadverseaffectorneedstobewithdrawn,youcanaddresstheproblem.
To fix an incorrect update
PlacethecorrectupdateontheserverthatThinAppcanaccess.
Theupdateisappliedthenexttimethe
applicationisstartedonaclientmachine.
