To install VMware Tools in a Linux Guest Within X Using the RPM Installer
1InVIWebAccess,clickInstallVMwareToolsintheStatussectionofthevirtual
machineSummarytab.
IfanearlierversionofVMwareToolsisinstalled,clickUpgradeVMwareTools.
2ClicktheConsoletab.
Theremainingstepstakeplaceinsidethevirtualmachine.
Theguestoperatingsystemmountsthe
VMwareToolsinstallationvirtualCD.A
windowmanagerdisplayingtwofilesmightappear.OnefileisfortheRPM
installerandoneisforthetarinstaller.Alternatively,aVMwareToolsCDicon
mightappearonthedesktop.
3Dooneofthefollowing:
IfyouseeaVMwareToolsCDicononthedesktop,doubleclickit,andafter
itopens,doubleclicktheRPMinstallerintherootoftheCDROM.
Ifyouseeafilemanagerwindow,doubleclicktheRPMinstallerfile.
InsomeLinuxdistributions,theVMwareToolsCDiconmightfailtoappear.In
thiscase,installVMwareToolsfromthecommandline,asdescribedin“Installing
VMwareToolsfromtheCommandLinewiththeTarorRPM
Installeronpage 82.
4Whenprompted,entertherootpasswordandclickOK.
Theinstallerpreparesthepackages.
5ClickContinuewhentheinstallerpresentsadialogboxthatshowsCompleted
SystemPreparation.
Whentheinstallerisdone,noconfirmationwindoworfinishbuttonappears,but
VMwareToolsisinstalled.
6InanXterminal,
asroot(su),runthescripttoconfigureVMwareTools:
vmware-config-tools.pl
Respondtothequestionsdisplayedonthescreen.PressEntertoacceptthedefault
value.
