Installing the Guest Operating System
Anewvirtualmachineislikeaphysicalcomputerwithablankharddisk.Beforeyou
canuseit,youneedtopartitionandformatthevirtualdiskandinstallanoperating
system.Theoperatingsystem’sinstallationprogrammighthandlethepartitioningand
formattingstepsforyou.
Installingaguestoperating
systeminsideyourvirtualmachineisessentiallythesame
asinstallingitonaphysicalcomputer.
Insomehostconfigurations,thevirtualmachinecannotbootfromtheinstallationCD.
YoucanworkaroundthatproblembycreatinganISOimagefromtheinstallationCD
andinstallingfromtheISOimage.This
sectiondescribesbothinstallationprocedures.
