Using the New Virtual Machine Wizard
Whenyoucreateanewvirtualmachine,theresultisasetoffilesthatrepresentanew
computer.IfyouarenotusingabootableCDorPXEimagefile,thevirtualmachine
includesablank,unformattedharddisk—thevirtualdisk—intowhichyouinstallthe
guestoperatingsystem.
To create a new virtual machine

Ifyouarenotusingport80toconnecttoVMwareServer,youmustincludetheport
numberyouspecifiedduringinstallationintheconnectionURL,forexample:

Whenyouconnectremotely,youareautomaticallyredirectedtothesecurehttp
(https)port.
TheVI WebAccessloginpageappears.
2Enteryourusernameandpassword,andclickLogIn.
3IntheCommandssectionofthehostworkspace,clickCreateVirtualMachine.
4OntheNameandLocationpage,enterthe
nameofthevirtualmachine.
Thenameyouenterhereisusedinthevirtualmachineinventorylist.Asubfolder
withthisnameisalsocreatedinthedatastoretostoreallthefilesassociatedwith
thisvirtualmachine.
5AlsoontheNameandLocationpage,selectadatastorefrom
thelistofexisting
datastoresandclickOK.

7OntheGuestOperatingSystempage,selectthetypeofoperatingsystemthatyou
intendtoinstallinthenewvirtualmachine,andselecttheoperatingsystem
versionfromthedropdown
menu.
