Enabling and Disabling Background Snapshots
Takingsnapshotsinthebackgroundallowsyoutocontinueworkingwhile
VMware Serverpreservesthestateofthevirtualmachine.However,enabling
backgroundsnapshotsforahostwithslowharddiskscanadverselyaffect
performance.Ifyouexperiencesignificantperformanceproblemswhentakingor
restoringsnapshots,disablebackgroundsnapshots.

To enable or disable background snapshots
1 SelectthehostintheInventorypanel.
2IntheCommandssectionofthehostSummarytab,clickEditHostSettings.
3IntheSnapshotssection,dooneofthefollowing:
Toenablebackgroundsnapshots,selectthecheckbox.
Todisablebackgroundsnapshots,deselectthecheckbox.
4ClickOK.
Thesettingtakeseffectafterthevirtualmachinesarerestarted.
Configuring Virtual Machine Startup and Shutdown
Settings
Youcanconfigurevirtualmachinestostartupandshutdownautomaticallywhenthe
hostoperatingsystemstartsandshutsdown,orallowthemtobestartedandshut
downmanually.Youcanalsospecifytheorderinwhichvirtualmachinesare
automaticallystartedandshutdown.
Youcanalsoconfigure
systemwidesettingsthatspecifyadelaybetweeneachvirtual
machine’sstartupandshutdown,andwhatkindofactionisperformedatshutdown
(suspend,poweroff,orshutdownguest).Youcanoptionallyoverridethesystemwide
settingsforindividualvirtualmachines.
