Forproductiondeployments,VMwarerecommendsthatACEManagementServerbe
installedoneitheradedicatedserveroravirtualplatformwithsufficientavailable
resourcestoensureperformanceandstability. Systemrequirementsdependalmost
exclusivelyonthenumberofACEinstancesbeingsupportedandthefrequencywith
whichtheyareconfiguredto
communicatewiththeserver.Formoreinformationabout
VMwareperformancetesting,see“PerformingCapacityPlanning”onpage 17.
However ,ACEManagementServerwastestedandcanbeinstalled ondesktopor
workstationplatformstosupportasmallnumberofclientsornonproductionevaluati ons.
Install an ACE Management Server on a Windows Host
InstallingACEManagementServeronaWindowshostinvolvesdownloadingand
runninganinstallationwizard.YoucaninstallACEManagementServeronthe
followingWindowssystems:
WindowsServer2003
WindowsXPProfessional(includes64‐biteditions)
Windows2000Server
Beforeyoubegin,makesuretheclockissynchronizedandtherequiredportsare
available,asdescribedin“PreparingforInstallation”onpage 25.
UsethisinstallationproceduretoinstallorupdateACEManagementServersoftware.
To install an ACE Management Server on a Windows host
1 DownloadtheVMware-ACE-Management-Server.exe filefromtheVMware
Websiteandsavethefileon
thesystemthatistohosttheserver.
Thefileisavailableasaseparatedownloadablefileinthesamedownloadlocation
astheWorkstationapplication.
2Double‐clicktheVMware-ACE-Management-Server.exe filetostartthe
installationwizard.
3Followthepromptsintheinstallationwizard.
4Ifyouareusingacomputerthathasafirewall
enabledandyouseeamessageat
theendoftheinstallationaskingwhetheryouwanttounblocktheApacheservice,
chooseUnblock.
ACEManagementServerdoesnotworkproperlyifyoudonotunblockthe
Apacheservice.
