AuthenticationpasswordandreverttooriginalinstalledACEenvironment
(RTI)snapshot–IftheseoptionswereincludedintheVMwareACE1.x
machine,theywillbecarriedoverduringtheupgrade.
Upgradedmachineswillnotinclude:
UpgradedVMwareTools–Thesemachineswillcontinuetousetheversionof
theVMwareToolsinstalledintheVMwareACE1.xmachine,andtherefore
VMwareACE2featuresthatrequirethelatestToolsversionwillnotbe
availableonthesemachines.
TheVMwareACE1.xpoliciesthatweresetforthevirtualmachineandforthe
project–Duringthepartoftheupgradethatoccursontheadministrator
machine,youcanchangeACE2policiesandpackagesettings.Ifyouchoose
nottochangeany,thedefaultACE2policiesand
packagesettingsareused.
Steps for Upgrading VMware ACE 1.x Virtual Machines to
VMware ACE 2 Virtual Machines
To create the upgrade package
1PowerofftheACEvirtualmachinesintheACE1.xproject.
2 Deleteanysnapshotsforthosevirtualmachines.
3Onyouradministratormachine,startupWorkstationACEEdition, browsetoone
oftheACE1.xvirtualmachinesintheproject,andopenthevirtualmachineby
clickingthevirtualmachine’s<virtual_machine_name>.vmxfile
icon.
4 SelectVM>UpgradeorchangeversionandselectWorkstation6asthehardware
versiontowhichthismachineistobeupgraded.
5 SelectVM>ClonetoACEMaster.
6IntheClonetoACEMasterWizard,givetheACEmasterexactlythesamename
asthenameofthe
ACE1.xvirtualmachine.Forexample,ifthe1.xnameis
winXPPro.vmx,thentypewinXPPro(minusthefileextension,whichisadded
automatically)intotheNamefieldontheNametheACEMasterpageofthe
wizard.TheoriginalACE1.xvirtualmachinefoldernamemustalsomatchthe
virtual
machinename.
