Chapter 11 Installing and Using VMware Player and ACE Instances
Requesting a Hot Fix
Whencertainproblemsoccur,VMwarePlayerprovidesasimplifiedmethodfor
contactingyoursystemadministrator—awizardthatletsyourequestahotfixforyour
problem.
Ifyoursystemadministratorhasenabledthehotfixmechanism,youcanuseitto
resolvethefollowingproblems:
Lostorforgottenpassword
ExpiredACE
Copy‐protectedACErunfromanewlocation
Thehotfixrequestincludesthenatureoftheproblem.TheHotFixRequestWizard
allowsyoutoincludeanadditionalmessagetoyoursystemadministrator.Thewizard
asksforyournameandemailaddresssoyoursystemadministratorcansendyouthe
hotfixorcontactyouforadditionalinformation.
YoursystemadministratormighthaveconfiguredyourACEtosubmitthehotfix
requestautomatically.Ifnot,oriftheautomaticsubmissionfails,youcansavethehot
fixrequestinafileandsubmitthatfiletoyouradministrator.Notethepathtothefile
showninthefinalpage
oftheHotFixRequestWizard.Alsonoteanysubmission
instructionstheadministratorprovides.Thewizarddisplaysthoseinstructionsinthe
pagethatallowsyoutosavethehotfixrequestfile.
Ifyoursystemadministratorapprovesyourhotfixrequest,youreceivethehotfixin
theformofa
file.Savethehotfixtothedesktopofyourhostcomputerortosomeother
convenientlocation.Double‐clickthehotfixtoapplyit.
Lost or Forgotten Password – IfyoursystemadministratorconfiguredyourACEso
apasswordisrequired,andyoutrytologonwithanincorrectpassword,youreceive
anerrormessage.ClicktheRequestHotFixbuttonintheerrormessagetostarttheHot
FixRequestWizard.
Ifyoursystemadministratorapprovesyourhot
fixrequest,theadministratorsupplies
youwithanewtemporarypasswordbywhatevermethodofcommunicationthe
administratorhassetup.Afterapplyingthehotfix,usethattemporarypasswordto
runyourACE.ThenchoosePlayer>ChangePasswordtosetapasswordofyour
choice.
Expired ACE – IfyoursystemadministratorconfiguredyourACEtorunforalimited
time,youreceiveanerrormessageifyoutrytoruntheACEafterithasexpired.To
