Viewing Messages, Notifications, and the ACE Information
Dialog Box
VMwarePlayerdisplayspop‐upnotificationsaboutchangesinnetworkaccesssettings
andotherstatusinformation.Thosenotificationmessagesappearinthelower‐right
cornerofthePlayerwindowwhenyoustartuptheACE.Youcanclosethemessages
byclickingtheXintheupper‐rightcornerofthe
messagebox.
YoucanviewmessagesthathavebeendisplayedforthisACEbyselectingPlayer>
Troubleshooting>MessageLog.TheMessageLogdialogboxallowsyoutoopenand
viewthepastmessagesandtoremoveanyorallmessagesfromthelog.
Youcanviewinformationaboutthe
ACE’snetworkaccesssettingsandothersettings,
suchasexpirationdatefortheACE,intheACEInformationdialogbox.Toaccessthis
dialogbox,choosePlayer>Troubleshoot>ACEInformation.
Controlling Devices Attached to VMware Player
YouradministratormighthaveconfiguredVMwarePlayertogivetheACEaccessto
someofthedevicesattachedtoyourhostcomputer,suchasthefloppydiskdrive,the
CDorDVDdriveandtheEthernetadapter.Dependingonthepreferencesyouset(see
“SettingVMwarePlayerPreferences”onpage228),
thosedevicesmightappearinthe
toolbarorontheDevicesmenu.
Todisconnectandreconnectthedevicesshownonthetoolbar,clickadevice’siconto
toggleitoffandon.Adevicewithadepressediconisconnected.Ifthedeviceappears
levelwiththetoolbar, itisdisconnected.
TodisconnectandreconnectthedevicesfromtheDevicesmenu,clickthenameofa
devicetotoggleitoffandon.Acheckmarknexttothenameofadeviceindicatesthat
itisconnected.Ifthereisnocheckmark,thedeviceisdisconnected.
Onlyonemachine—eitherthe
hostcomputerortheACE—canusediskdrivesandUSB
devicesatanyonetime.IfyourACEisconfiguredtousethedevice,andifyouwantto
usethatdevicedirectlyonyourhostcomputer,youmustfirstbesureitisdisconnected
fromtheACE.TheEthernet
adaptercanbesharedbythehostcomputerandtheACE.
Setting VMware Player Preferences
YoucansetpreferencesthatcontrolthebehaviorofVMwarePlayer.Theoptions
availabletoyoudependonchoicesmadebyyoursystemadministrator.Tochangethe
preferences,choosePlayer>Preferences.ThePreferencesdialogboxappears.
Ifyoursystemadministratorhasmadethemavailable,youcansetthepreferences
described
below.
