Setting Snapshot Policies
Youcansetpolicyoptionsfortwotypesofsnapshots:
Reimagesnapshots–Theprogramautomaticallytakesareimagesnapshotofan
ACEinstancewhentheACEiscreated.Ittakesthesnapshotafteralltherequired
instancesetupstepsarecomplete(including,ifapplicable,encryption,instance
customization,anddomainjoin).ThesnapshotistakenwhiletheACEinstanceis
powered
off.
Usersnapshots–YoucanenableuserstotakeausersnapshotoftheACEinstance
eitherwhentheinstanceisrunningorimmediatelyafterpoweringitoff,andyou
canalsoenablethemtodeletethatusersnapshot.Ifyouenableoptionsinthis
policyforthisusersnapshot,Snapshot
appearsintheVMmenuwhentheACE
instanceispoweredon.Onlyoneusersnapshotcanbesavedatatime.
Thetwosnapshottypesdifferintheseways:
Primaryuses–ReimagesnapshotsallowtheACEadministrator,ortheuserifthe
administratorenablesreimagesnapshotoptionsfortheuser,toreverttheACE
instancetoitsknowngoodstartingstateortotheknowngoodupdatedreimage
state.Theadministratormighttelltheusertoreverttothe
reimagesnapshottofix
aproblemwiththevirtualmachine.Theadministratoralsomightpatchthevirtual
machineorinstallnewsoftware,retakethereimagesnapshot,andthenrevertthe
machinetothesnapshotorinstructtheusertodoso.Usersnapshotsenablethe
usertoreturnthevirtual
machinetoaknownstablestate.
Whentheyarefirsttaken–Thereimagesnapshotisfirsttakenautomaticallyafter
theACEinstanceiscreatedbutbeforeitisrunforthefirsttime.Ausersnapshotis
takenwhenevertheuserchoosesafterpoweringontheACEinstance.
Precedence–Thereimagesnapshotmustalwaysbeolderthantheusersnapshot.
Takinganewreimagesnapshotdeletesanyexistingusersnapshot.Usersnapshots
canbetaken,revertedto,anddeletedwithoutaffectingthereimagesnapshot.
Powerstatewhentaken–Usersnapshotscanbetakenbothinpowered‐onand
powered‐offstates.Thereimagesnapshotisonlytakeninapowered‐offstate.
NOTEYoucanmanuallydisabletheautomaticreimagesnapshotbyeditingthe
