Chapter 5 Creating and Configuring ACE Masters
Why Would You Need to Reassign an ACE Master to a Different Server
Address?
EverytimeyouopenamanagedACEmaster,WorkstationACEEditionlooksupthe
ACEmaster’srecordontheACE2ManagementServeranddownloadsthemaster’s
policiesandotherinformationfromtheserver.IfWorkstationACEEditionfailsto
contacttheserverorcannotfindarecordfortheACE
master,itcannotopenthemaster
andthemasterbecomesunusable.Inthiscase,youcanchoosetochangetheserver
addressoftheACEmaster’sACE2ManagementServer.
When Do You Need to Reassign an ACE Master?
CommonsituationswhenyoumightneedtoreassignanACEmastertoannewserver
address:
TheaddressoftheACE2ManagementServerchanges(forexample,ifitwasa
DHCP‐assignedaddressorifyouchangetheserver’snetworkaddress).
ThedatabaseusedbytheACE2ManagementServergetscorrupted.
Ineitherofthesecases,theACEmaster’sdatabaserecordcannotberetrievedandan
attempttoopentheACEmasterwillfail.Youwillbeofferedachoicetospecifythenew
addressoftheserver.Iftheaddresshaschanged,specifythenewaddressoftheserver.
Ifthe
databasewascorrupted,youcanspecifytheaddressofanotherACE2
ManagementServer.TheACEmasterwillnowusethisnewACE2Management
Server.However,allyourdeployedinstanceswillcontinuetousetheoldserver(you
canreassignthembycreatinganddistributingaserverupdatepackage).
How Does Reassigning the Master to a New Server Address Work?
IftheaddressoftheACE2ManagementServerhaschanged,youcanspecifythenew
addressoftheserver.WorkstationACEEditionsearchesforarecordforthisACE
masteronthenewserver.Iftherecordisfound,theACEmasterwillusethisexisting
recordalongwithall
thesettingsstoredforthisrecord.(Caveat:IftheACEmasterwas
usingpassword‐basedactivationbeforeitwasreassigned,thisaccesscontrolsetting
willbechangedtonoactivation.Afterreassigningthemaster,youwillneedtochange
ittousepasswordactivationandspecifytheactivationpassword).
Ifan
existingrecordforthisACEmasterisnotfoundonthenewACE2Management
Server,WorkstationACEEditionwillcreateanewrecordfortheACEmasteronthe
newserver.However,inthiscasethefollowingsettingswillbelostandyouwillneed
tore‐enterthem:
