Reassigning an ACE Master to a Server When the Master’s
Record Cannot Be Retrieved
WhenyouopenamanagedACEmaster,VMwareWorkstationACEEditionwill
contactthemanagementserverthattheACEmasterisusingtoretrievethisACE
masterʹsrecord.IfWorkstationACEEditioncannotcontactthemanagementserver,the
ACEmasterrecordcannotberetrievedandtheACEmastercannotbe
opened.
AserverrecordforanACEmastermightbeunavailableforvariousreasons,including:
Theserveraddresshaschanged.
TherecordfortheACEmasterhassomehowbeendeleted.
ThesolutiontotheseproblemsistoassigntheACEmastertoanewserveraddress.
WhenyouattempttoopenanACEmasterwhosemanagementservercannotbe
contacted,WorkstationACEEditiondisplaysamessagethattellsyouthattheserver
cannotbecontactedandaskswhetheryouwantto
selectanewserveraddress.
Ifthenewaddressthatyouprovideissimplytheupdatedaddressfortheoriginal
server—forexample,theaddressobtainedfromDHCPservershaschanged—thenthe
ACEmaster’srecordwillbeintactinthenewserverlocation.
IftheoriginalserverisunavailableortheACEmaster’s
recordhasbeendeleted,then
whenyouopentheACEmaster,WorkstationACEEditionofferstocreateanewrecord
fortheACEmaster.Somedatathatwascontainedintheoriginalrecordislost—such
asaccesslists,keylists,anddomain‐joinpasswords—becausethatdatawas
maintainedonthe
server.
To reassign an ACE master to a new server address
1Whenyouseethemessagethatpromptsyoutoselectanewserver,selectortype
inanewserveraddressandport.
IftheACEmasterwasusingActiveDirectory,thenyoucanonlyreassignittoa
newmanagementserverthatisintegratedwithActiveDirectory.IftheACEmaster
wasnotusingActiveDirectory,thenitcanbereassignedtoanymanagement
server.
2ClickOK.SelectACE>Newpackage,providethenameandlocationofthe
packageinthewizard,andthenselecttheServerUpdatepackagetype.
CAUTIONIfyoureassignanACEmastertoanewserver,beawarethatunlessthenew
serverhasaccesstotheolddatabaseortoacopyofit,existinginstancesofthatACE
masterwillnotcontinuetorun.
