Replacing Major Components
4. Remove the thermal cut-off switch.
a) Disconnect the wire from the thermal cut-off switch to the heater element.
b) Loosen the clamp securing the thermal cut-off switch to the heater element.
c) Remove the two screws and hex nuts securing the thermal cut-off switch to the tank lid.
d) Remove the old thermal cut-off switch by pulling it out the top of the tank lid.
