FRU Replacement
This chapter describes procedures for removing and replacing the field replaceable units
(FRUs) in the L20 library. Refer to your orderable parts catalog for the FRU part
numbers.
Repair Setup
Note: You must have a personality module available to test the library; the library will
not initialize without a personality module attached.
Before you begin replacement of library components, you must:
1. Read and be familiar with the information in “Personal Safety” on page xvii.
2. Do not plug power into the library unless told to do so in the instructions.
3. Prepare a sturdy work bench with a static-free mat.
CAUTION:
Lifting hazard: The library weighs 29 kg (64 lbs) with two drives. Use two
people to safely move the library.
Possible equipment damage: Do not lift the library by holding the fans.
4. Place the library on the mat.
5. Have your standard tool kit available.
6. Have the correct replacement part; for all parts, make sure that they are at the proper
engineering level.
7. Check that there is no obvious damage to the library due to shipping or incorrect
packing.
8. For all procedures except for the drive area fans:
a. For desktop models, remove the screws and place the desktop cover aside.
b. Remove the screws from the chassis top cover and place the plate aside.
c. Remove the packing cushion.
9. Do not loosen the shipping screw on the picker unless instructed to do so.
