Port Control Values
Port Control Description
Auto The default, on-line port mode. Ports can be in Auto
mode only if the switch has derived a valid clock, valid
Fibre Channel “K28.5” characters, no LIP(F8)s from the
port’s receiver, and the ability to LIP(F7). (These
conditions prevent “rogue” ports from being inserted
and potentially disrupting the loop.)
Disable Port Forces a port into the “Off Line” Port Connect State.
Disable a port when you want to selectively and non-
intrusively remove devices from the loop while
troubleshooting.
Reset Port Executes a soft reboot to the port, taking the port off
line, then brings the port back on line with the existing
configuration.
Beacon Port Forces both port’s LEDs to flash on and off (beacon)
continuously to bring attention to the selected port.
Useful as a locator to remotely alert a technician to take
action on a specific port as identified by a Systems
Administrator. The blinking will override the state
information display until the beaconing is turned off.
