The Port tab controls are described below.
Port Tab Options 1
Port Control
Mode Description
Auto The default port mode. The hub must be able to derive a
valid clock, valid "K" characters, no LIP (F8)s from the
port’s receiver and the ability to LIP (F7) before
permitting a port to join the loop. This mode prevents
insertion of "rogue" ports that could disrupt the loop.
Forced
Bypass
This mode removes a port from the loop. Use this mode
to troubleshoot ports.
Forced Insert This mode allows ports whose receivers cannot derive a
valid clock or “K” character to join the loop.
WARNING: Use carefully—devices without valid
characters may put bad data into the loop, causing the
loop to go down.
Loopback This mode removes a port from the loop and routes the
port’s receive signal back through the port’s transmitter.
Use this mode to isolate a specific loop for
troubleshooting or test a GBIC’s transmitter/receiver
circuitry and attached media from the node end.
Port Tab Options 2
User Entry or
Selection Function
Select Port Allows the user to select a port to control or
monitor. The ports are color-coded to show status.
GBIC transmitter The user can turn on/off the GBIC’s transmitter in
the selected port. (Default: On.)
GBIC status Displays the status of the GBIC’s receiver.
(pull-down list
of ordered sets)
under Transmit
Allows the user to select an ordered set for
transmission.
K28.5 Defines a specific ordered set by placing valid Fibre
Channel data characters in the "D" fields.
