Vixel 2100 Managed Hub Policies
Hub Policy Description
Enable smart
insertion
Before allowing a port to insert, the hub ensures that
signal on the port’s input has the following
characteristics:
• Locked onto by the Phase Lock Loop.
• Valid Fibre Channel LIP behavior.
Bad loop
recovery
policy*
The hub reinitializes the loop, then allows only those
ports with valid Fibre Channel LIP behavior to insert,
when one of the following situations occur:
• Frequent bad comma characters exist in the passed
ordered sets.
• Initialization takes a long time.
• Other bad loop indications exist.
LIP(F8)
recovery
policy*
When the hub detects LIP(F8)s (indicating non-functional
loop), it reinitializes the loop, then allows only those
ports not sending LIP(F8)s to insert.
LIP on
deinsertion*
The hub requires a bypassed port to announce its status
by issuing LIP(F7)s to other loop members.
automatic
port bypass
on Ordered
Set errors
When a port exceeds the threshold of Ordered Set errors
within ten seconds, the hub bypasses the port. Note: The
threshold can be changed. (The maximum expected error
rate is one error within 15 minutes.)
LIP on
Insertion
When a port inserts onto a loop, it issues LIP(F7)s to
other loop members.
Loop Test
Before
Insertion
Before allowing a port to insert onto the loop, the port is
looped back and monitored for proper Loop Port State
Machine (LPSM) protocols. (At least one of the devices on
the port must be a Loop Initialization Master (LIM) to
follow these protocols.)
* To set this policy, first set Enable smart insertion (make sure it is
checked).
