9 Debian Installation

9.7. Setting Passwords

After partitioning the disks and setting up the clock, you’ll be asked to set a password for ’root’

and create a new user.

9.8. Install the Base System

As the OnRISC is not oﬃcially supported by Debian, there is no kernel shipped with the distribu-

tion. Answer with ’Yes’, when you’ll be asked to install without a kernel.

9.9. Conﬁgure the Package Manager

In the case of a CD-ROM installer you’ll be asked if you want to download and install updates

from a network mirror. The network mirror will be conﬁgured as described in Subsection 9.5. After

conﬁguring the package manager, you’ll be asked to participate in the package usage survey.

9.10. Software Selection

In this dialog you can select which component groups will be installed on your system (see Figure

31).
