14.14.4. DNS proxy
The DNS, domain name server, responds to naming service queries for mapping the resource
name with respective IP address. Typically the name servers are needed for providing the IP
addresses for www-names. For example, when a user enters an URL, e.g. www.violasystems.com
to the browser’s address field, the computer will need to know the IP address of the server
providing the content of Viola Systems’ web pages.
Additionally, the DNS may be used in intranet for name to IP address resolution for local hosts.
Arctic is able to work as DNS proxy, which means that it will work as a mediator between the local
computer that is sending a naming resolution query and remote DNS server that responds to the
query. In this case, the Arctic is set as DNS server for the computers residing at Arctic’s LAN.
