avoid blocking the SIM card if the entered PIN code is not matching the PIN code of
the SIM card.
o If a wrong PIN number is entered and Arctic is rebooted, the Arctic will only
try once. After that, the SIM card must be placed to a cellular phone and a
correct PIN code must be entered. After a correct PIN code is also entered to
the Arctic, the SIM card can be inserted to the Arctic again.
o Note: Do not insert or remove SIM card, while the Arctic has power
connected, it may result in corruption of the phone numbers possibly entered
to the SIM card.
DNS servers
It is possible either to use the DNS server addresses provided by cellular network or
to define the DNS servers manually. Typically it is recommended to use the
addresses provided by cellular network if the connection type is GPRS and there are
devices in Arctic’s LAN that need name resolution, while going to Internet through
Arctic.
However, if there is no need for DNS, choose manually configured DNS servers, but
leave the fields empty. The SSH-VPN will try to do a reverse DNS lookup for peers,
which slows down the SSH-VPN connection establishment.
Led indication
o When set to “Data only” the GPRS LED blinks, while data is transmitted
o When set to “Informative” the GPRS LED indicates data and GPRS
registration status
GPRS username & password
Username and password required by cellular operator’s APN. Verify the values from
cellular operator. You may use some ”dummy” values e.g. “username” and
“password” even when not required by APN.
PPP idle timeout
If GPRS connection is idle more than defined amount of seconds the Arctic will re-
establish the GPRS connection.
Note: The ICMP Echo sending interval of “Monitor” should be smaller than PPP idle
timeout in order to have uninterrupted connection.
See page 48, chapter 15.5. Configuring the Monitor settings of the Arctic for further
information for the Monitor functionality.
Maximum MTU value
The maximum size of sent GPRS packet in bytes. Leave as default, unless having
problems with large packets.
Use GPRS as default route
o Set to “Enabled” if GPRS is used as a default route to external networks
(typically when plain GPRS is used, without M2M GW or when some hosts in
Arctic’s LAN need to access the Internet through Arctic).
o Set to “Disabled” if other connection (VPN tunnel or Ethernet) is used as a
default route to external networks. See also page 39, chapter 14.1
