Search Capabilities
DVMS has extremely powerful search capabilities. Depending on the system, you might have hundreds or
thousands of video clips stored on DVMS. The tools provided by DVMS allows users to quickly and easily find just
the events or time frames desired, without having to slog through pages of clips.
Storage of Video
DVMS stores video either as time lapse or events. Time Lapse recording is defined as continuous recording at a
specific rate, possibly dictated by the internal timer. Event Recording is defined as recording initiated by some
triggerable event. Event recording can be caused by external alarm contacts, internal Video Motion Detector or by
Text Insertion.
DVMS allows you to “partition” each hard drive into separate areas where the video is stored. The default setting
for each connected drive is 50% Event, 50% Time Lapse. By separating the storage areas for each type of
recording, you can control them independently. The advantage is that if the time lapse partition get filled, it won’t
take away from the storage designated for Event recording. A typical scenario is:
a) Time Lapse partition fills up to 100% capacity, yet Event partition is at 25% capacity.
b) Time Lapse partition starts to overwrite or “erase” over the oldest time lapse recording. This is similar to
“Rewind and Re-record when End-of-Tape” on a convention TLVCR.
c) Event partition is undisturbed, and new Events will continue to be stored up to the capacity of the
partition.
