AGP
Advanced Graphics Port. A high-performance bus type that uses short expansion slots for AGP
video cards. AGP buses are targeted at 3D graphics applications and based on a set of
performance enhancements to
PCI.
AMS
Alert Management System. A component of Intel management products that provides various
alerting capabilities, such as paging, Internet mail, and broadcasts.
ASF
Alert Standard Format. A standard which defines alerting and remote control interfaces to
proactively manage networked devices when their operating system is absent.
ASIC
Application-Specific Integrated Circuit. A customized microchip which is designed for a specific
application.

BIOS
Basic Input/Output System. A set of software routines generally stored in a firmware chip located
on the motherboard. The BIOS is responsible for your computer's input/output activities, such as
interpreting keystrokes and mouse clicks, displaying images and characters on the screen, and
sending data to the printer.
blade server
A server designed for use in a space-saving rack with multiple servers that share power
management, cooling systems, and other management features for improved efficiency. Blade
servers are typically stored in a blade
chassis that contains one or more chassis management
