INTEL® SERVER MANAGER 8.40 SERVER GUIDE FOR WINDOWS
Server Manager bridge agent is installed, and full-featured management is available when the
Intel Server Manager server console is installed. In addition, the server console can be installed
on a server that is not IPMI-enabled. The table below compares the functionality of these four
options.

*Standard BMC. The mini BMC (mBMC) is a scaled-down version of a baseboard management
controller. It has the functionality listed above, with limitations such as the following:
• Does not support serial over LAN (SOL) redirection
• Has only one username for BMC management
• Uses only one channel for communicating with the BMC
• Has a smaller system event log (SEL) repository
• The bridge agent is not supported on mini BMC platforms
Intel Server Manager services
On Windows* 2000, Windows 2003, and Windows XP, Intel Server Manager runs a number of
services, depending on the components installed:
• SSM—Intel System Space Manager. Loads and unloads Intel Server Manager
components (such as the
HTTP server, node discovery engine, node log file, health
manager, store and forward, and
SNMP) as they are needed by Intel Server Manager.
