playbackcontrol.SMIL‐compliancemeanspredictableresultsacrossmultipledevices,andSMIL’snon‐
proprietarynaturemeansthatyourinvestmentsareneverobsolete.
4.1. Introduction
UsingSMIL(pronounced“smile”),thelanguagecreatedbyW3Cformultimediacommunications,the
mediaplayerunderstandsthelanguage“spoken”byprofessionaltoolsfromcompaniessuchas
Adobe,Apple,Microsoft,andRealNetworks.Whatthismeansisquicker,easier,andbetter
integrationofyourplayersintoyourdigitalsignagenetworks,openingupavenues
ofsoftware
controlsandrealizingthefullpotentialofyourplayerhardwaredowntheroad.
4.2. PlayingaSMILdemo
ThedemonstrationfilescanbefoundintheSoftwareandDocumentationCD.
Step1:PreparecontentsusingaPC
PrepareaformattedUSBdrive(usingthe“FAT32”filesystem
option).CopytheentiresampleSMILdirectorywithallitscontent
filesfromSoftwareandDocumentationCDtotheUSBdrive.Make
suretheSMILdirectoryshows
upintherootdirectoryoftheUSB
drive.
Step2:Uploadcontentstoplayer
PoweruptheCD‐1010.Bootingtakesabout90seconds.
Whentheorangebootindicatorlampgoesout,insert
USBdriveintotheUSBporttobeginupload.Allfiles
undertheSMILdirectorywillbecopiedtotheplayer
and
thesamplecontentswillbegintoplay.
